Gaston Mall's Harris Teeter store is one of the chain's oldest stores that is still in operation. It opened in the early 70s with Gaston Mall, which is a small indoor shopping center that has a Hollywood Video, Mary Jo's clothing store, a variety of locally owned stores, and the mall was until recently anchored by Media Play. What is notable about this store, besides its design, is that the future of Gaston Mall is up in the air amid rumors of a SuperTarget coming to the space. The question remains as to what will happen to the Harris Teeter and other stores. Additionally, this HT serves the eastern Gaston towns of Mt. Holly and Belmont (whose Harris Teeter store closed in the 1990s). This store faces I-85 at Cox Road, just east of downtown Gastonia and about 25 minutes west of downtown Charlotte. It is one of three Harris Teeter stores in Gaston County, the others being in southern Gastonia and Cherryville
