Harris Teeter closes at Eastland Mall

Harris Teeter's store at Eastland Mall, which has been in operation since 1975 (since the mall itself has been open) closed its doors on June 26, 2006. An outparcel of the convenience center, this store's closing does not come as a shock as much of the mall itself is in decline and many inline tenants are departing, and major anchor tenant Belk closed. The photo was taken on Thanksgiving Day 2005, and as you can tell from the exterior the older Harris Teeter logo was used on this store until the end. Ceiling fans and drop ceilings (as opposed to warehouse ceilings) flanked the interior, as it looks like the last renovation was in the late 80s at best. As of 2012, this space is vacant after a temporary tenant took over for a short period of time.

I passed by there the other day. It looks so sad and lonely out there now. I think HT made the wrong decision to abandon Eastland.

I spent a summer in Charlotte after college and we shopped there almost exclusively as we lived just down Sharon Amity in some apartments. Sharon Chase or something?? I guess it was around 1987 and Eastland was in her prime.
