Fresh Market headed to Elizabeth?

There's word from the Charlotte Business Journal that Greensboro-based specialty grocer Fresh Market is in talks with Grubb Properties to locate a store in Charlotte's Elizabeth Avenue redevelopment project. As most of you know, this is where Whole Foods' first Charlotte location was supposed to go until they put that on hold indefinitely (the SouthPark location is still viable though according to sources). Then after the community unsuccessfully tried to woo back Whole Foods, they started turning to alternatives and it was rumored that possibly an Earth Fare or Fresh Market, or similar type of store, would move in. Fresh Market has two other stores in Charlotte, one on Providence Road in Strawberry Hill (photographed above) and one on Pineville-Matthews Road in Carmel Commons. Also to note, a typical Fresh Market is only half the size of the originally proposed Whole Foods, which was to be 50,000 square feet.
