Downtown grocer on track for Greensboro

Downtown Greensboro is closer to getting a small grocery store. Deep Roots Market, the community-owned cooperative currently located on Spring Garden Street near Wendover Avenue, says it has raised 75 percent of the $1.25 million needed to build a new downtown store that will encompass over 10,000 square feet. Deep Roots Market is known for being one of the only co-ops to feature all-organic produce and source much of their food from local farmers. The store is set to be on the north end of Downtown on North Eugene St. near Fisher Park.

Which is kind of good since the Harris Teeter at Golden Gate is on the verge of closing and I've considered that the closest to downtown a grocery store will ever get.

@Anon... Is that your speculation that HT @ Golden Gate will close or have you heard anything? That shopping center has always been interesting with two dueling stores.

DT GSO needs a grocery store...with the apartment complexes near and around the area it's a great move. It's rare to be able to walk to a grocery store these days :-)
