The last remaining Super Kmart Center in North Carolina
This Super Kmart Center in Concord, NC, about 15 minutes northeast of UNC-Charlotte on US 29 is possibly the last remaining Super Kmart Center in North Carolina. We're not sure if the Kmart in Garner (just south of Raleigh) is still a supercenter or if it has downgraded to just a regular Kmart store - if anyone knows please leave a comment here! Kmart has downgraded former Super Kmart Centers in Greensboro and Burlington to just regular stores in the past couple years, so it is surprising that they still have a few full-scale grocery stores. Furthermore, Sears is opening outlet departments in the former grocery section of the Greensboro and Burlington stores. Additionally, it looks as if Kmart is 'upgrading' a lot of their stores with orange trim on the exterior.
*Update: The Garner store is no longer a Super Kmart Center, leaving the Concord store as the only supercenter left in NC. Thanks to an anonymous comment. Additionally, Super Kmart does have a website of its locations: http://www.superkmart.com/component/kmstoresinusa/
*Update 2: This store is no longer a supercenter, as of our visit in March 2010.

According to the website (http://www.superkmart.com), the Concord store is the only Super-K left in North Carolina. There is also only 1 left in South Carolina. Overall, it looks like there are only 37 left in the Country, most (25) in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan.
I wonder how this store is holding on as a Super Kmart. Business must be really good. The paint job however, is atrocious.
I forgot to comment on the Little Caesar's. I can't believe they still have an intact Little Caesar's Pizza Station! This is a real time-warp.
I was at the store in Garner in mid-September. There was some remodeling going on, but I can't remember what it was they were doing...perhaps ripping the 'Super' part out? It seemed like they still had some food at that point, but I really didn't venture into the left half of the store as you walk in. But -- it was by far the largest Kmart I've ever been in, and the exterior was not unlike the Concord one (duh, I guess).
the store in Garner is no longer a super i was their today and was surprised when i headed for the grocery section. disappointed i don't always like going to wal-mart!
Nice site! Maybe I'll visit while it's still open!
I'm linking to this site http://superkmart.blogspot.com/
This store no longer has food items such as a meat department, a bakery department, a small assortment of can goods, cereals, and snacks, are still there but the prices are so high for those items that you do better going somewhere else. The other depatrments are there such as clothing, small appliances, jewlery, shoes....stuff like that. So if your looking for the food shopping that they once had.... your out of luck. What a shame and a huge dissappointment for the area.
The grocery section of the Concord store is becoming a Sears Outlet store in late summer 2010. This K-Mart is no longer Super

This SUCKS! Ive been trying to find a Super KMart store near me, and this would of been 40 minutes away. Anyone know of the closest Super KMart to Charlotte NC?
Mike- you won't find one close by. All of the Super Kmart Centers in North and South Carolina have downgraded to regular Kmart stores -- the last hold out in SC was in North Charleston. Honestly, the closest operational Super Kmart Center would probably be in the midwest now.
The Super Kmart website is back up, but the locations are outdated. Some of the listed stores I am 100% certain they were converted. I Know the Fremont and Medina, Ohio stores as well as others listed were converted. Why is Sears Holdings putting up a list of Super Kmarts when some are not Super Kmarts anymore. There is a however a Current Super Kmart list at my blog deadanddyingretail.blogspot.com.
The grocery section at the Lorain, Ohio store looked liked this before it was remodeled in 2010. In Lorain they made their produce section nicer and put updated signage on the walls.
Nice pictures! I have current pics of this location with the Sears Outlet in the former grocery side on my site Kmartworld.com.
