Lowes Foods, Little River Pavillion

This Lowes Foods store in Little River, SC (just north of Myrtle Beach) is the fast-growing grocer's second store in South Carolina, after their store in Tega Cay just outside Charlotte. Lowes Foods' freshmart/freshsmart concept has enabled to grow and expand outside their core markets attracting new patrons and enabling them to become more competitive. This beautiful store is designed in a style that is very light and airy and blends in very well with the beach. The store is about 43,000 square feet and is located at Hwy 17 and Hwy 179 in Little River.

Good to see Lowe's expand to a new market. I expected Publix to arrive before Lowe's, since Publix is in the Charleston, Hilton Head, Columbia and Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson corridor in South Carolina. Publix would definitely fill the void left by the departure of Harris-Teeter. Lowe's fits in a little upscale from Winn-Dixie, now gone, Bi-Lo and Food Lion and will be a good alternative to Kroger as they expand in the Grand Strand.

Yeah I'm glad that Lowes Foods expanded to the Myrtle beach market. I didn't think Publix would. Doesn't the grand strand still have Piggly Wiggly and Kroger though.

The Grand Strand has beaucoups of Food Lion, 4 Wal-Mart SuperCenters(5 if you count Conway), 5 Krogers, about 4 or 5 BiLos, and maybe 6 or 7 Piggly Wiggly stores.
The Lowe's will be in direct competition with Food Lion in Little River. A&P as recently as the early 90's had close to 8-9 Strand locations. Harris-Teeter and Winn-Dixie are the most recent departures. Publix has been aggressively expanding in South Carolina. They are closing in on BiLo's market share in the I-85/Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson corridor, BiLo's home market and gaining in Columbia and Charleston, they have 37 stores in South Carolina and have passed Piggly Wiggly in market share, but not store count and are closing in on Food Lion in the Palmetto state, despite Food Lion having over 100 locations in SC.
